Company bio

Konno Cycle Works was founded in 1965 by Hitoshi Konno, brother of Yoshi Konno, and father of Shin-ichi, the present owner. The bicycle brand name, Cherubim, was chosen by Hitoshi's mother, a Christian, and the angelic moniker was intended to give wings not only to the riders of Cherubim bicycles, but their family members too. The manufacturing base of Cherubim is in Machida, a suburb of Tokyo, about 1.5 hours from city center. Although there is a Cherubim retail shop in Machida, in recent years Konno opened a shop in Aoyama/Shibuya, in central Tokyo. Cherubim also provides bicycles to some riders competing on the JKA Keirin circuit.

Owner's bio:

Shin-ichi Konno started in the family workshop as a child and was taught by his father. They worked together for 20 years until Hitoshi retired. Shin-ichi also points to the influence of his uncle Yoshi, who had helped Hitoshi found the Konno Cycle Works before setting up his own cycle manufacturing business. Most Cherubim bicycles sold are based on regular road or track designs. Shin-ichi Konno has stated that simplicity is the key to great design, but also he has an eye for the unorthodox, and has shown many eye-catching designs at international shows such as NAHBS, as a way of suggesting that the design of the bicycle need not be set in stone. For his efforts, he has won several awards.
